What Truckbase is
Truckbase is a cloud-based, multi-tenant TMS designed for asset-based truckload carriers — the kind running 5 to 50 trucks of their own equipment, dispatching loads themselves, and invoicing customers through QuickBooks.CAPTERRA It was founded in 2021 in Oakland, California by Bryan Jones (Stanford GSB; previously Bain & Company, Zume, CheckHQ).LINKEDIN The company hasn't disclosed a priced funding round in public filings as of mid-2026, and Glassdoor describes the team as fully remote and lean rather than in hypergrowth.GLASSDOOR
The product itself ships eight core modules:
- AI load builder — OCR-imports rate confirmations directly into the dispatch board.
- Dispatch — one-click text/email dispatches with status tracking.
- Truck & trailer tracking — via integrated ELD telematics from 30+ providers.
- Invoicing & A/R — auto-generated from rate-con + POD, sync to QuickBooks Online or Desktop.
- Driver settlements — per-mile / per-load / percentage; feeds payroll, doesn't run it.
- Document management — BOL / POD / scale-ticket capture, primarily through the driver app.
- Truckbase Intelligence — analytics on per-load profitability, lane margin, dispatcher productivity.
- EDI for trucking — custom EDI for shippers (203 / 204 / 210 / 214 / 990).EDI
Deployment is cloud-only — there is no on-prem option.CAPTERRA Native iOS and Android driver apps are live in both stores.APP STOREPLAY
Pros & cons

- FreightWaves Ratings recommends Truckbase over McLeod, TruckLogics, and Alvys for asset-based carriers in the 10–100 truck range. — FreightWaves Ratings
Cons
- Driver mobile app is the most-flagged weak spot — drivers report friction marking loads "in transit" / "delivered" and there are no push notifications. — Capterra · Kevin C., Kyneshia M., verified CEO
- AI rate-con import misses fields; users report having to double-check every load entry. — Capterra · Jasmine C., Kyneshia M.
- Reporting and customization weaker than core dispatch — filters do not persist between sessions; reports called "weak" by a verified CEO reviewer. — Capterra · 3 reviewers
- No monthly billing flexibility — annual-billed entry tier; one reviewer flagged "no monthly or even quarterly fee structure." — Capterra · Ali B.
- No native payroll. Settlements feed payroll tools but the platform doesn't run payroll itself. — SelectSoftwareReviews · G2
- Self-serve training resources are thin — users report no library of training videos, only live sessions plus recordings (single-source — flagged). — G2 (single-source)
- No free trial. Sales cycle is demo-only with a money-back guarantee instead. — Capterra product profile
Aggregate ratings
Truckbase carries the strongest review-platform numbers of any small-fleet TMS we track. The G2, GetApp, and app-store figures are listed but were not directly verifiable in our last research pass (G2 returned 403 to fetch; the app stores blocked our crawler) — we treat them as unverified until the next refresh.
What real users say
The praise pattern is dispatch UX, onboarding, and QuickBooks invoicing. The complaint pattern is the driver app, AI accuracy, reporting depth, and pricing rigidity. Both are real.
Their Customer Care in the onboarding process is Top Tier. Managing our fleet and managing our drivers has been so smooth.
I can manage 10 trucks in the same amount of time that I was taking to manage 2 trucks. 5x productivity.
The AI importations of rate confirmations and dispatch orders along with the integrations with QuickBooks make billing quick, easy and accurate.
Really not configured for an owner operator based company. Reporting is weak. Driver app is terrible.
Even though Truckbase has a new notification tab, the system still doesn't do pushed notifications.
When entering loads it isn't always accurate and we have to double-check everything. Filters do not save and you have to re-enter each time.
Price is very high. No monthly or even quarterly fee structure.
Orders stay on the boards forever. I would like the orders to drop off based on certain milestone statuses.

Pricing
Truckbase publishes pricing through demos, not a public per-tier page, so the figures below come from third-party listings.CAPTERRAVENDOR PRICING
| Tier | Price |
|---|---|
| Annual-billed entry Floor cited in third-party search excerpts |
$290/mo |
| Monthly-billed entry Per Capterra product profile |
$490/mo |
| Pricing model | Flat / volume-based |
| Free trial | Demo only |
| Notes | Volume-based by fleet size. No free trial — money-back guarantee. Vendor markets ~2-week onboarding across 2 meetings. One Capterra review reports tracking is an add-on (single-source — unverified). |
Two pricing figures appear in third-party listings — $290/mo (annual-billed) and $490/mo (monthly billing per Capterra's profile). They aren't contradictory; they're the two billing-frequency entry points.
Known issues
Distilled from the public review pattern. Each issue below is backed by at least two independent public sources unless explicitly flagged as single-source. Demo against these specifically — not the smooth-pitch dispatch board.
#01 Driver app status updates 2 sources
Multiple Capterra reviewers report drivers struggling to mark loads "in transit / delivered" and request in-app driver-to-dispatcher messaging. One CEO calls the driver app "terrible."
#02 AI rate-con accuracy 2 sources
Two separate reviewers state the OCR misses fields and dispatch entries must be double-checked.
#03 No push notifications 2 sources
Status changes don't trigger pushes; "orders stay on the boards forever" until manually cleared.
#04 Reporting depth & filter persistence 3 sources
Reports called "weak" by verified CEO; filters reset between sessions; customization "limited" per multiple reviewers.
#05 Annual-only billing rigidity 2 sources
No documented monthly or quarterly billing tier. Several reviewers flag the price as high for the commitment.
#06 No native payroll 2 sources
Settlements export to payroll tools; the platform itself does not run payroll.
Who Truckbase is for — and who it isn't
Buy it if you are:
- An asset-based carrier running 10–50 trucks — the documented sweet spot per FreightWaves Ratings and the review pattern.FW
- Replacing spreadsheets or aging desktop tools with a modern UI and a real driver mobile app. The "5x productivity" gain reviewers describe shows up here.
- Already running QuickBooks (Online or Desktop). The QBO sync is the strongest accounting integration in the product.
- Buying for white-glove onboarding over self-serve documentation. The included 2-week onboarding is repeatedly singled out as the best part of the product.
Skip it if you are:
- An owner-operator (1–3 trucks). A verified-CEO Capterra reviewer flatly said "really not configured for an owner operator based company." Pricing also doesn't scale down well at that size.CAPTERRA
- A freight broker or 3PL. Vendor focus is asset-based carriers; FreightWaves explicitly recommends Alvys for brokers.FW
- Compliance-heavy — CDL/medical/maintenance reminders are not native. TruckLogics, by contrast, ships those in the box.FW
- Expecting native payroll. Settlements feed payroll tools; Truckbase doesn't run payroll itself.SSR
- Enterprise (500+ trucks) with complex workflow rules and warehouse management. McLeod or Trimble TMW is a closer fit.FW
How it compares
Truckbase is most often shopped against four products: Alvys (broader, broker-friendly), Rose Rocket (API-first, scales further), TruckLogics (more compliance, cheaper entry), and Tailwind TMS (lower per-truck price). FreightWaves Ratings has done three of those head-to-heads.
vs. Alvys
FreightWaves: Truckbase wins on usability, mobile, and transparent pricing for asset-based carriers; Alvys wins on broader audience (brokers/3PLs) and a 100+ integration catalog. "For small- and medium-sized asset-based freight carriers, Truckbase is the way to go. If you're looking for TMS software for brokers or 3PLs, Alvys is certainly worth further consideration."FW
vs. Rose Rocket
Rose Rocket users complain of slower customer service responsiveness and complexity for small carriers; Truckbase positions as easier for small asset-based fleets. The Rose Rocket case is stronger as you cross 50 trucks and start needing API depth.FW
vs. TruckLogics
FreightWaves: Truckbase wins ease-of-use, driver mobile, and customer-satisfaction (100% recommend on Capterra vs. TruckLogics' 44%). TruckLogics wins on native compliance (CDL/medical reminders, maintenance scheduling, DOT documentation) and offers a free 2-week trial Truckbase doesn't match.FW
vs. McLeod
Truckbase wins on price, ease-of-use, and modern UI; McLeod wins on enterprise-scale workflow rules and warehouse integrations. Recommended fleet sizes diverge: Truckbase 10–100 trucks, McLeod 500+.FW
Alternatives we'd consider
Alternative review links go live as we publish them.
Bottom line
Truckbase earns its 96/100 and Editor's Choice for the small-to-mid asset-based carrier tier. For a 10–50 truck fleet running QuickBooks, this is the highest-likelihood-of-getting-out-of-spreadsheet-hell decision on the market in 2026, with the strongest review platform numbers in its niche.CAPTERRA
But the score doesn't tell you the shape of what you're buying. You're getting excellent dispatch + invoicing + onboarding, paired with a weaker driver app, weaker reporting, and an annual-billing-only commitment. If those four weaknesses overlap with your operational pain, demo Rose Rocket, TruckLogics, or Tailwind alongside it before signing.
If they don't, Truckbase is a defensible 12-month bet, and you'll probably end up another data point on the 100% recommend rate.
