What Tailwind TMS is
Tailwind TMS (originally Tailwind Transportation Software) is a cloud TMS for small-to-mid carriers, freight brokers, and hybrid carrier+broker operations. Founded in 2002 by working freight brokers in Delta, BC, Canada. The legacy on-prem product was rebuilt as a cloud platform in the late 2010s.
The corporate path matters because it shapes the product's recent reputation: Envase Technologies acquired Tailwind in October 2020; WiseTech Global acquired Envase in April 2023 for US$230M.WTC Tailwind now sits inside WiseTech's CargoWise Landside business unit. As we'll see in user reviews below, the support quality story tracks neatly with that ownership trajectory.
Core modules: quotes, orders, dispatch, BOLs/load confirmations, invoicing & settlements, driver and vehicle management, sales-commission tracking, GPS/order tracking, accounting handoff, claims/incident logging, multi-branch/multi-division. Native iOS + Android driver app: Tailwind POD Complete — bundled in all tiers.APP
Pros & cons
Pros
- Tailwind POD Complete native iOS + Android driver app bundled in all tiers — captures signed BOLs, e-signatures, PODs. — Apple App Store

- Hybrid carrier + broker workflow on one platform — standout positioning vs carrier-only tools. — CargoWise
- QuickBooks Online sync available across all tiers (not gated). — Capterra
- Multi-branch / multi-division included in sub-$200/seat pricing. — Capterra pricing
Cons

- Performance / slowness / forced reloads — repeated complaints across multiple Capterra pages. — Capterra · multi-source
- Forced migration from legacy Tailwind Software to new cloud platform left some users with feature regressions. — Capterra · Tiffany M. + Martin J.
- Check printing functionality reportedly broken; transmissions fail "on most every single one" per accounting reviewer. — Capterra · Patty C., Katherine B.
- Integration depth is thin for growing fleets — only Samsara is the confirmed first-party ELD; Geotab/Motive unverified. — Truckpedia · Samsara KB
- Heavy-haul fit is poor — single Capterra reviewer flag (single-source). — Capterra · Michelle M. (single-source)
- Reporting/BI gated behind Unlimited tier; G2 commentary notes "no ability to tap into the database for custom reporting without creating an expensive API." — G2 (single-source)
Aggregate ratings
Capterra at 4.2/5 across 97 reviews is the most reliable signal. G2 returned 403 in our last research pass. (Note: Capterra/GetApp/Software Advice all share Gartner Digital Markets data, so they're effectively one signal.)
What real users say
The praise pattern is small-fleet affordability and ease of training. The complaint pattern is post-acquisition support quality, performance, and forced legacy-to-cloud migrations.
Best software package for the small carrier and/or brokerage that is very affordable.
Friendly user, easy setup, cloud based TMS system. Clean and effective system. Easy to use and train new staff to use.
Originally hey this is pretty good but since their so called update or new platform its gone to crap… Getting service is terrible def wouldn't recommend it to anyone anymore.
Customer support is AWFUL! Check printing functionality doesn't work at ALL.
I have to size ALL my paperwork because of the transmissions fail on most every single one.
The speed of the platform is incredibly slow with multiple crashes per week.
Ever since Tailwind was sold to a US based company, the support is almost unexistent. We sometimes have to wait over 24 hrs only to get an answer, sometimes up to a week to get resolution.

Pricing
Tailwind publishes its tiers, which is genuinely uncommon in this market. The trap to avoid: it's per-user, not per-truck.
| Tier | Price |
|---|---|
| Pro Core ops, dispatch, accounting, QBO sync, 25 GPS-tracked loads/mo, POD Complete app |
$99/user/mo |
| Enterprise Adds Customer + Carrier portals, ELD support, API, 50 GPS-tracked loads/mo |
$149/user/mo |
| Unlimited Unlimited GPS, Power BI, webhooks, RMIS onboarding, EDI |
$199/user/mo |
| Pricing model | Per user / mo |
| Free trial | Free trial · no setup fees |
| Notes | Per-user pricing — NOT per-truck despite informal industry shorthand. A 5-user team on Pro = $495/mo. No setup fees, no contracts. Free trial offered. Annual-vs-monthly discount terms not publicly disclosed. |
Reporting/BI is gated behind the $199 Unlimited tier. EDI is also Unlimited-only. Plan tier accordingly if you need either.
Known issues
Distilled from the public review pattern. Each item is backed by ≥2 independent public sources unless explicitly flagged single-source.
#01 Post-acquisition support degradation 3 sources
Phone/chat replaced by portal-ticket model with multi-day SLAs. The dominant negative pattern across Capterra — 3+ reviewers across pages 1–2.
#02 Performance / slowness / forced reloads 3 sources
"Multiple crashes per week," "incredibly slow," "log in every time I click on a new page." Repeated across Capterra pages 1, 2, and 3.
#03 Forced legacy → cloud migration losses 2 sources
Some long-tenure users report features from the prior Tailwind Software desktop product not present in the cloud platform.
#04 Accounting friction 2 sources
QuickBooks integration "requires extra steps"; check printing and deposits reportedly broken or awkward.
#05 Thin ELD/EDI/load-board integrations 2 sources
Only Samsara is confirmed first-party ELD; broader ELD coverage and DAT/Truckstop ties unverified despite small-fleet target.
#06 Heavy-haul fit 1 source (single-source)
Single reviewer flags "not necessarily the right fit for a heavy haul operation" — anecdotal but worth noting.
Who Tailwind is for — and who it isn't
Buy it if you are:
- 2–10 truck carrier or small freight broker wanting an all-in-one cloud TMS with a real driver app and QuickBooks Online sync.
- Hybrid carrier + broker operation — Tailwind's standout positioning vs. carrier-only tools.
- Operator needing multi-branch/multi-division in a sub-$200/seat product.
Skip it if you are:
- Heavy-haul / OD-permit-heavy carrier — flagged by reviewer Michelle M. as a poor fit (single-source but operationally specific).
- Past ~15 trucks needing deep ELD (Geotab/Motive) and EDI integrations — only Samsara is confirmed first-party.
- Buyers prioritizing fast, phone-based customer support — multi-day SLA reports are recurring post-acquisition.
- Price-sensitive owner-operator — ITS Dispatch ($50) and TruckingOffice ($20) undercut significantly.
How it compares
vs. Truckbase
Truckbase is purpose-built for asset-based small carriers with cleaner UI and stronger driver-app reliability. Tailwind is broader (carrier+broker hybrid) but pricier per seat. Reviewers note larger fleets may "have to migrate to a different platform" as Tailwind features lag Truckbase's roadmap.
vs. AscendTMS
AscendTMS rates higher in aggregate (4.9/365 vs Tailwind's 4.2/97) and has a free tier. Tailwind's edge is the unified carrier+broker workflow and bundled POD app. Ascend's edge is integration breadth and customer-service reputation.
vs. ITS Dispatch
ITS Dispatch is materially cheaper (~$50/mo vs $99/user/mo) for owner-ops and ranks higher on third-party scorecards (ITQlick 87 vs Tailwind 74). Tailwind wins on broker-side functionality and bundled customer/carrier portals.
vs. TruckLogics & TruckingOffice
TruckLogics is owner-op and small-fleet at lower entry pricing; TruckingOffice is bookkeeping-first at ~$20/mo. Tailwind is the upgrade path for ops/dispatch needs but at materially higher cost.
Alternatives we'd consider
Alternative review links go live as we publish them.
Bottom line
Tailwind earns its 85/100 and Best Hybrid Carrier+Broker (Small) badge for shops running both books at small-fleet scale. The product itself is competent, the pricing is transparent, and the POD Complete app is genuinely better than what most competitors at this price ship.
The buyer's reality check is the post-acquisition support story. Before signing, get the current support SLA in writing, and ask the sales rep specifically about average ticket-resolution times in 2026. If the support quality is acceptable to your operation, Tailwind is a defensible 12–24 month bet. If it isn't — and several reviewers say it isn't — Truckbase or AscendTMS will get you closer to phone-first support that still picks up.

Open questions we're tracking for the next quarterly refresh — surfaced for transparency rather than hidden:
- Annual-vs-monthly billing discount terms
- Geotab and Motive integration status (Samsara confirmed in our matrix; Geotab/Motive not surfaced)
- Updated customer count (last public number was 500+ in Oct 2020 — likely stale under WiseTech ownership)
