Why we exist
If you search Google for "best TMS for trucking," the top results are almost all vendor blogs — PCS Software ranking PCS first, Toro TMS ranking Toro first, GoFreight ranking GoFreight first. The general SaaS marketplaces (G2, Capterra) cover TMS, but they cover thousands of categories and treat shippers, brokers, and carriers as interchangeable.
Carriers shopping for a TMS deserve a publication that knows the difference between a 3-truck owner-operator running QuickBooks and a 300-truck enterprise running multi-terminal dispatch — and that doesn't have a horse in any race.
That's the gap BestCarrierTMS is built for. Independent. Carrier-side. Surface the roadbumps as honestly as the wins.
What we cover
- Product reviews — deep, sourced reviews of every major carrier-side TMS, scored against the same 77-feature rubric.
- Fleet-tier landings — "best TMS for owner-operators / 2–10 / 11–50 / 51–250 / 250+" pages that filter the catalog to your scale.
- Head-to-head comparisons — the matchups carriers actually search for: Truckbase vs Alvys, McLeod vs Trimble, Rose Rocket vs Truckbase, AscendTMS vs Tailwind.
- Buyer's guides — "How much does a TMS cost?", "How to choose," "Implementation checklist," and a free RFP template.
- Integration matrices — which TMS plays well with Samsara, Motive, Geotab, QuickBooks, DAT, Truckstop, Apex, OTR Capital. Filterable.
We focus on asset-based carriers: owner-operators, small fleets, mid fleets, large fleets, and enterprise. We touch broker-side and shipper-side TMS only where they cross over into carrier workflows.
How we work
The full editorial process and scoring rubric live on our methodology page. The short version:
- Every product is scored against 77 features in 8 categories. Each feature is rated Native / Integration / Partial / Not available / Unverified. We never guess "Native" when we mean "Unverified."
- Every factual claim — pricing, integrations, reviewer quotes, founding facts — is anchored to a public source we can link to. If we can't source it, we mark it as such or leave it out.
- Negative reviews are surfaced with the same care as positive ones. Buyers want to see the roadbumps. Single-source claims are flagged as such; recurring complaints with multiple independent sources are treated as known issues.
- Vendors do not see scores before publication. We will accept demo access and fact-check corrections; we will not accept payment, ranking influence, or pre-publication review.
- Pricing is checked monthly. Scores and rankings are re-derived quarterly. Methodology is reviewed annually.
Editorial team
BestCarrierTMS is a new publication. Our editorial bench is being built around contributors with operational carrier experience — dispatchers, owner-operators, small-fleet operators, and software analysts who have actually rolled an MC over and paid drivers. Bios will be posted here as the team is formalized.
Independent editors. None hold equity in or have current employment at any reviewed vendor. Conflicts of interest, where they exist, are disclosed at the top of the affected review.
Pulls aggregate ratings, sample reviewer quotes, and recurring complaint patterns from G2, Capterra, GetApp, TrustRadius, FreightWaves Ratings, Reddit, and app store reviews. Every quote we publish carries an attributable source.
Carrier owners and dispatchers who pressure-test our scoring against the dispatch board, settlement run, and IFTA cycle that carriers actually live in. They flag when a scored "Native" feature is technically present but operationally useless.

How we make money
Right now, we don't. The site is bootstrapped while we build out the catalog and earn an audience. We're committed to a few principles before any monetization layer is added:
- No paid placement, ever. Vendors will never be able to buy ranking, scores, or removal of accurate negative claims. This rule is non-negotiable.
- Display advertising, if we add it, will be clearly labeled as advertising and will not appear in ranking tables.
- Affiliate links, if we add them, will be disclosed inline at point of click and will not influence ranking. The score and the affiliate decision will be made independently.
- Lead-gen forms, if we add them, will be opt-in and labeled. Vendors will not pay us per-lead in a way that influences ranking.
- Sponsored posts are the line we won't cross. We don't run them.
